I enjoyed the unique perspective given these Bible stories. They are told in first person, in the informal style and language of a child. The first three, all taken from Old Testament and featuring familiar figures who have become grandparents to the storytellers, felt especially like the passage of family history through oral tradition. My only criticism (as a lover of crisp, precise prose) is that the young storyteller sometimes rambles a bit. But I wouldn't hesitate a minute to share these with a children's group. In fact, I probably will! They are ideally suited for such. Sometimes all it takes to freshen up an old story for antsy listeners is a new lens to view it through.Product details

Ever wonder where the elephants were kept on the ark? Wonder no more! Mathisen gives you the inside scoop in this fictionalized version of some of the best loved Bibles stories, spun from the point of view of children who could have lived through these events. These short stories are told in a simple and engaging way that young readers will appreciate. The illustrations are charming!
This is a charming book. Great for kids, but also enjoyable and insightful for adults. I especially enjoyed the early stories about Noah. There are always interesting insights to be gained about biblical stories through a slightly different perspective--and the great angle of viewing these stories through the eyes of children is brilliant!
